Areas of Interest:
Description: I am employed by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as a Senior Research Nurse and Midwife. I have been working in Research and Development since 2010 and love the challenges and opportunities that a research role provides. I specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology clinical trials and lead a dedicated team of nurses and midwives. I have enjoyed a diverse range of experiences throughout my nursing and midwifery career, working in a variety of specialities including surgery, medicine, emergency care, neonates and triage. I have also worked in mental health services as a practitioner, trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. I recently completed a course in Hypnobirthing to enhance the choice of care options open to women delivering at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. My special interest is Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) which began in 2013 when attending a FASD training session. I met a mother speaking about the difficulties of bringing up her daughter who suffers with classic FASD brain damage and learning disabilities. The predicament of these children and their parents has motivated my research into FASD. I am nearing completion of a PhD which is exploring alcohol consumption in pregnancy and the acceptability of antenatal screening to clinicians, pregnant women and their partners to prevent the future harms of FASD.
