Description: Melissa did her PhD with the World Health Organisation collaborating centre for obesity prevention at Deakin University in Australia. Her thesis was entitled: "Monitoring the corporate political activity of the food industry". As part of her PhD, she had the opportunity to work at the Pacific Center for the Prevention of Obesity and Non-communicable Disease (C-POND) in Fiji. Before joining Deakin University, Melissa completed her MSc in food science and engineering, and specialised in NutriSenAS (nutrition, sensory perception, food, health, safety) at Agrosup Dijon in France. During her MSc she spent a year at the University College of Cork in Ireland (ERASMUS European exchange) and then led a research project in a food biotechnology laboratory at Purdue University, in the USA. She also has a BSc in physiology. Melissa has worked for the charity "Action Against Hunger" in Paris, France, and for the United Nations Standing Committee on Nutrition in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2016, Melissa joined the Mental Health and Addiction Research Group (MHARG) at the University of York, UK.
